We are delighted to share the news that Whitespace Work Software, in association with Derby City Council, has been shortlisted for the National Recycling Awards 2021 run by industry bible MRW (Materials Recycling World). Our entry was submitted in the Partnership Excellence – Public/Private Sector category.
Working together, Derby and Whitespace designed, developed and implemented a solution that would improve the operational efficiency of the authority’s waste collection services whilst also providing valuable management data. This solution included the innovative implementation of sensors into street litter bins which can then notify collections teams when bins reach a predetermined level of fullness.
The results of this partnership have been impressive and vitally, the improved data enables Derby to work smarter and target resource where it’s needed most. Waste minimisation and recycling education work can now be focused on the homes known to be contaminating their bins, improving quality and reducing costs. The collaborative approach adopted by Whitespace and Derby has seen them work together as a single entity as much as possible and included embedding a dedicated Whitespace account manager in the authority’s team during the roll-out as well as a comprehensive training programme carried out both onsite and digitally.
Winners of a National Recycling Award will be announced at the prestigious awards ceremony which will take place on 8th December 2021 at the Hilton Park Lane in London.
